Why Are Men So Hard To Buy Gifts For?

Buying a man gifts had always been hard for a woman. If you want to add in an element of surprise, this would make it doubly hard. Getting him gifts is actually a sociological puzzle. The only answer to the question “why are men so hard to buy gifts for?” is: because men and women are so different. Everything boils down to this divergence.

Why is there still a need for this article when you can just save time and buy him gifts? Understanding men will help a lot in your list of gift ideas for him.

Reason Number 1: They Know What They Want

This is a very definite difference of men and women. While women spend A LOT of time thinking about want they want best among their very varied choices, men know what they want. Women love to confuse themselves with alternatives. After they have decided on the perfect scarf that they want, they will start agonizing on the perfect color. If they have decided on a color preference—say, purple—there are still many shades of purple that they have to contend with. With men, they want this shirt and it should come in white only. That’s it! No frills and fluffs! This very straightforward take in decision-making confounds women all over the world. Of course, not all men think in the same way. There are a few exceptions.

What men want for Christmas, birthdays, and any other occasions will revolve on very few choices. And women cannot understand how men could be so unimaginative. The problem starts when women insist on acting on what they think is right for their men. Word of advice: keep it simple and straightforward.

Reason Number 2: They Don’t Know What They Want Anymore

Such paradox! Figure that out. They don’t really know what they want now because they have definite ideas on what they want. And when they wanted that particular thing, they will immediately buy it without a battle with their conscience. End result is they don’t have an idea of what else they might want because they have already bought it.

Others might say that women could just go and ask the men what they want for their birthday or for Christmas. But oftentimes, men won’t have a ready answer to this. This is because they have already bought it a month before. No chance of trying to get him a new shaver because he’s already got them. What you can probably get him are spare batteries for it. And who buys batteries for gifts?

Reason Number 3: They Have Very Narrow Choices

This poses a very big problem. Fewer interests mean fewer choices. Now, women can never get this. Who can comprehend why their men only want three things in life? Their range of interests is sports, sex, and gadgets (the new sociological need). Having very few choices for gift ideas for him means that what they wanted last year is still what they want for this year. Women cannot appreciate that. How can you gift someone a t-shirt with his favourite team’s logo last year and still want that same kind of shirt for Christmas again? You may ask him if maybe he wants it in a different colour. He will say “maybe”, but actually means he still wants it in the same colour.

This came from a man when asked for gift ideas for him: know what his interests are and you have found what he really wants. Another tip where you can never go wrong is gadgets. There are men who are very tech-savvy and there are men who are Neanderthals when it comes to technology. Both kinds enjoy the challenge. The first will enjoy discovering how powerful they are with the new gadget, plus he can start bragging about it to other men. The latter, on the other hand, will have fun learning what push emails mean, or worse, will have a jolly time learning how to text.

Reason Number 4: They Already Have Everything They Need

Having everything they need spell disaster on any woman’s gift list. Why does this happen? Men know what they want so they decide right away and buy it. This means that everything they need are already bought and paid for. So even if you ask them for gift ideas, they do not know what they want anymore. Half of the women population are thinking “How can you be so insensitive and buy what you want? What can I get you for Christmas if you already bought what you want?” Now, the other half had decided on getting what they think men want (but, really, women can never get it right). This leads us to the Number 5.

Reason Number 5: What They Want Are Things Women Will Never Want

Women will find it hard to accept that their men want things that have resemblance to their toys when they were little. How can he want just an all-in-one remote? You won’t believe how happy he’d be with paintball guns.

So What Can You Buy For Him?

Hear this: most men want something practical. Something that’s very useful. And if he’s already got that, he’d want something totally useless. Ideas on a postcard… or in the comments section below.
